WHAT I TRY TO DO as a painter:

Make figurative paintings.

Draw every day to try and determine what it feels like to be a human being in this place at this time.

Make prints - because the process presents new formal problems to be overcome.

Take risks, to the point of destruction, to make a greater gain through painting.

Find equivalents, connections and metaphors.

Dredge images from my biographical history.

Give the images authentic ownership.

Write about those things for which I cannot, currently, give a visual form.

Trust the work and the process.

Find more pieces to fit the autobiographical jig-saw.

Take full responsibility.

Be visually and intellectually critical.

Leave a painterly problem to be resolved for the next day.

Keep going.
